Not only have they been present at our many functions, but the company has also provided sponsorship and financial support for many of the events including our DIY Show Dinner.
The company has run promotions with retailers on behalf of The Rainy Day Trust, contributing an element of their profits to the charity, and have also helped to fund videos and other promotional material for the trust at a minimal cost. Sales Director of UK Distributions, Philip Duncan has been a valued trustee ofthe charity for five years and is heavily involved in the running of the trust.

Stax is a DIY and Hardware cash and carry providing wholesale support to independent retailers and tradesmen across the country.
Stax has been supporting The Rainy Day Trust for many years through corporate membership, which is a huge help in allowing us to fund pensions and grants for our beneficiaries. Not only this, but their stores collect a large amount of money for the trust year after year by using collection tins, and organizing raffles, and they actively support our fundraising events. David Hibbert, Managing Director is a trustee of the Rainy Day Trust and is a driving force behind the trusts fundraising and marketing. David has been responsible for organising the trusts Annual Karting Challenge year after year. The event raised around £2500 for the charity last year, and was sponsored by Stax.
John has been a valued member of the Rainy Day Trust for five years. He was born, and brought up in Devon, and his father was the managing director of The Devon Trading Company (a thriving builder’s merchant based in Exeter).
John served in the Royal Navy until 1947 before he went into the Timber Trade. He worked for J.T Sydenham & Co Ltd, timber importers in Portsmouth, whilst awaiting a passage to Canada, which was then the source of most timber imported to Britain. John worked in the lumber mills and yards of The Hillcrest Lumber Co, and Blodel, Stewart & Welsh, both on Vancouver Island. He attended night school during his time there and obtained the much prized Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau Grading Certificate.
John returned to the UK in 1949 and joined the Devon Trading Company. He was involved in the company’s continued growth and success over the following 20 years. The company later merged with Harvey & Co in 1969 and became part of UBM Group Ltd. After ten years, John left to set up his own company- Ashmead Building Supplies LTD. His company won the category of ‘Best Independent Merchant’ in the coveted National Builders Merchants Awards for excellence in 2006.
We are extremely grateful to John for his continued support of the Trust. His many donations have helped to keep the charity running over the years, and have benefited many people within the trade as a result.
