The Rainy Day Trust exists
to care for people in difficult times who have
worked in the hardware and house-wares industry
for more than ten years. People like George and
May;
George had worked in the industry
for many years. When his wife, May, became ill
George had to stop work and care for her full
time. As part of her illness May developed incontinence
and so without a washing machine, George who was
over 70, spent much of his time hand washing their
bedclothes four or five times each day. Eventually
the stress, emotional and physical pressure took
its toll on George. The Rainy Day Trust was contacted
by Social Services and we were able to purchase
a washing machine for George and May dramatically
improving the quality of their lives.
George and May's story gives
some idea of the practical way that the Rainy
Day Trust helps those in need. There are many
ways in which we help; a visit from one of our
volunteers, nursing home or residential fees,
a day out with grandchildren, travel expenses
to visit relatives, hampers at Christmas, all
can prevent people feeling isolated, lonely and
depressed.
